Penile Prosthesis - Post Prostatectomy Rehabilitation Surgery
Penile Prosthesis allows a solution for men who have undergone Prostate Cancer Surgery.
Dr Elmes is qualified for insertion of various types of prosthesis and depending on each patients anatomy, Dr Elmes will choose the most appropriate type. Most types contain the below:
-
A reservoir (placed in the abdomen)
-
Two penile cylinders
-
A pump
Each part is connected by silicone tubing.
The implants used have significant enhancements and have high patient ratings for their rigidity, girth and ease of concealment.
An important feature of the penile implant we use is the “no touch” technique that lowers the chance of infection rates. With any procedure involving the insertion of a foreign object into the body, it is crucial care is taken pre-operatively, during the procedure and post operatively so the patient does not develop infection-causing removal of the device. With the use of “no touch” technique Dr Elmes can offer a safer procedure for men.
You will be required to have an overnight stay in hospital and usually discharged the following morning on oral antibiotics and simple pain killers.
Dr Elmes will review you in his rooms post operatively where he will teach you how to inflate and deflate the implant and you will be provided with detailed information on ensuring the best possible outcome for your prosthesis.
